I'm a Dane and I CAN Fetch!

Sooo..... Mommy has something to say....
MY DANE CAN FETCH!!! I dont care whateveryone else says!!

So when I got my Dane EVERYONE on earth told me I would never get my dane to fetch.. but guess what all you nay-sayers (not sure if that is how its spelled our or whatever).... Nova CAN fetch and she is getting pretty good at it!!

I guess cant listen to everything that people tell me... (that is a no brainer)

I do have to say though.. that from the beginning.. everytime we pass by some one on the street or whatever, they always want to give me advice on my Great Dane yet they dont have one of their own and therefore never researched the breed.. Well boo on you on all those people who dont know what they are talking about (which is NO ONE on bloggie world!)

So we are so glad Nova is having fun with all her fetching!! I hope that she keeps with it and wants to Fetch forever!! We will see!

  1. Ha, see I had no idea. Carla (my dane) fetches all the time. She does get bored after five minutes but she is willing to do whatever I ask of her.

It seems like Nova is becoming such a nice well rounded dog.

  2. Darwin fetches... but she's usually only into it about 3 times before she gets bored and stops going for the ball. And if you throw it too far she won't get it. She's definitely not a lab or a retriever, but she has fun going for it for those 3 times. :)

  4. Our mom gets lots of comments about us, too. We are skinny pugs, so everyone says "I thought pugs were fat!" Or we're called Men in Black. Or something else stupid. So don't despair, unfortunately, stupidity isn't breed specific.
In that random, small world, odd kind of thing, we have cousins who are also a Great Dane and a Chihuahua. And two Pomeranians. They are all coming to visit us for Christmas. Four pugs, two poms, a Chi and a GD. Plus four cats. It will be epic.

  5. Oh - I totally know what you mean about those people. If I listened to all those people who told me all the things that Honey "couldn't" do - we would never have achieved everythign we did today - and be showing and inspiring other Danes too! And as you say, the thing that annoys me most is that it's usually people who have no idea or experience of the breed.

I think the problem is that people are lazy and always wants quick fixes or instant results and Danes are not the easiest dog to train, therefore people just give up and say they can't be trained to blah-blah-blah - where it's nothing to do with the dog but with the human being a poor trainer.

yes, retrieving stuff isn't an obsession with Honey like it is with some gundog breeds and she was always very selective about what she would pick up in her mouth - but over the years, through working slowly with her, I have got her picking up more things and even doing a formal Obedience retrieve (sit & present it in her mouth, hold it until i take it) - so who says Danes can't retrieve? :-)

Keep up the great work and looking forward to seeing a retrieve video soon!
